Elina was a bit of a loner.
She was
feeling a little crowded, stuck in the house with six other girls. She was used
to a quiet house. Except when she left for summer camp, or really secret superhero
training summer camp, her baby sister was a little over two months old. And so
Elina wasn't really used to the noise.
She had
asked Rayna if she could spend the evening at the skate park. Rayna, trusting
Elina, gave her permission but asked her to return by six-thirty, as that was when
they'd have dinner. So Elina had spent two hours practicing skateboard tricks
and getting bruises. It smarted a little when she fell down, but she always got
up and tried again. She picked up her skateboard and started for the house.
Walking down an empty street, passing by a quaint water fountain in the small
shopping plaza near the park, she heard a lady scream, "Help! Someone
stole my baby!"
Elina
looked around checking to make sure no one was watching. She ducked behind the
water fountain, to transform from her jeans and helmet in to her wings and
fairy costume. Once in fairy attire she flew, following the high pitched screams,
down the road.
In the
alley she found a woman with brown hair that sort of reminded her of her mother
screaming for help while pointing up high in the sky, at Elina's nemesis, her
twin sister. The Dark Fairy held in her arms a baby. Elina zoomed over to her
twin. "Sister, let the baby go, she's never done anything to you,"
she said.
The Dark
Fairy laughed, "Ha! Ha! She gave me a prime opportunity to attract your
attention.
"That's
all. You should thank her, and return her to her mother.”
"No!”
the fairy yelled, holding the baby in one hand she used the other to drive a
wind funnel at Elina. Elina dogged, but didn't dare throw a light blast at her twin
while she held the baby. Elina flew after her sister.
"That
baby’s not much bigger than Violet," Elina thought. Although Violet's only
two months old, Elina at times couldn't stand her baby sister, she cried all
the time. Often cutting into Elina's sleeping or studying time, but Elina still
cared for her. Flying over even the tallest buildings Elina had almost caught
up to the Dark Fairy. The Dark Fairy dipped and Elina snuck by grabbing the baby
from her hands and headed back to the ground. Elina looked down at the baby in
her arms. The green eyes twinkled, after only a second she looked back up
certain she held in her arms Violet. Glancing at the street, the figure that
had reminded her of her mother before, now looked exactly like her mother
except in a skirt. Elina was uncertain if she was imagining things or if it her
family.
Elina
looked back at the Dark Fairy, and realized too late that the fairy had sent
another wind tunnel her way. Elina cradled Violet tightly and tried to protect
her from the wind. Rushing towards the
ground she stuck her hand behind her to break the impact and keep her tiny
sister safe. Landing on the ground hard Elina's head the brick wall of the nearest
building. She lay crumpled after being knocked out upon impact her left arm
contorted underneath her. Violet rested unharmed on her chest.
