Actual superheroes exist and sometimes they just want to do
normal things such as go to comic book convention. That was the case for the
superhero friends Miguel and Michael on this quiet Friday afternoon. Michael
dressed up as the tech specialist from a popular superhero TV show. His costume
was relatively simple he wore a band T-shirt and cargo shorts and, using a
computer he made himself a badge identifying himself at the character. Which although
his costume had nothing to do with his superhero alter ego, it did reflect his
technopathic abilities. While Miguel decided he would wear his actual superhero
costume.
When the boys met outside Miguel’s
house, Michael questioned his choice.
“Um, dude, you sure you want to
wear that?” Michael questioned.
“Relax, I wear a mask and lots of
people dress up as real superheroes. There’s even a real superheroes meet-up.”
“Alright, if you think no one will
recognize you.”
They left it there.
Hours later Michel went to a
superhero tech panel and Miguel found himself at the real superhero cosplay
meet-up.
He walked into the room and noticed
many people dressed up as various superheroes. A few heroes he had even had the
pleasure or, on occasion, displeasure of meeting. Glancing around the room
Miguel wondered how many others of these cosplayers were the actual superheroes.
He saw a black and red clad young man walking his way. The young man greeted
him with a high-five handshake. They wore almost identical Nanofore outfits.
“Man, your costume is sick!” the
young man exclaimed.
“Not, bad yourself, dude. You
almost look like the real thing.”
“I know, I spent over four hundred
hours on my costume.”
“I built mine up piece by piece,
improving it little by little each time,” Miguel bragged.
“That’s cool, Man,” he opened his
thigh holster to reveal some tech pieces. “I’ve cataloged each of Nanofore’s
different gear and created realistic replicas.”
“Awesome, dude.” Miguel opened up
his own red thigh holster, and produced a smoke pellet. The pellet had a thin
silver band with the N4 logo at the center. “Have you seen this dude?”
“What the! No dude, that’s awesome.
I hadn’t seen the logo on Nanofore’s pellets.”
“Yeah, well, I’ve seen the real
thing in action.”
“Unbelievable!”
the young man took off his mask. He showed Miguel how he holds on his mask, “I
used super thin invisible elastic to hold the mask on so it doesn’t it fall off
and is hardly noticeable.”
Miguel got
uncomfortable for a moment. But then decided this young man clearly believed he
was in a costume show-off contest with an expert cosplayer and didn’t suspect
he’s talking to the real thing. He sighed then removed his mask, still sounding
just as confident as before, “That’s chill. My mask is face form fitting with
reusable, washable adhesive, so that it can stick and stay on my face.”
“Dude! That’s
amazing!”
Miguel quickly
replaced the mask on his face.
“Okay, here’s the
best piece on my costume,” the young man bent down and removed his boot, “I
even got the insole according to the real Nanofore costume.”
Miguel looked
inside. His jaw dropped. It was identical to his own.
Miguel whistled
out, “That’s scary accurate, dude.”
“I know, man.”
“Alright, dude,
check this out,” feeling the rush of the moment he produced a small pocket
knife from the holster on his leg. Miguel opened the blade, took a deep breath
and swiped blade across his arm. He gritted his teeth, to keep from crying out.
“Dude, what are
you doing?” he called.
“Watch,” Miguel
said. His skin regenerated together and fabric expanded to cover the slit.
“Woah! Man!
That’s wicked. Alright, you win. I bow to your costume’s awesomeness,” the
young man raised his hands and then bowed.
Miguel smiled
smugly, “Thanks, dude. Your costume is impressive. Keep working on it.”
The two parted
ways and Miguel kept walking around the room meeting different costume clad
people.
